Hand washing is one of the most effective ways to prevent yourself from catching COVID-19. This is the recommended way of washing your hands in order to get rid of COVID-19 droplets from entering your eyes, nose, and mouth when your hands touch your face.
Put your hands under clean, running water. Lather with soap. Using soap takes off the oil in your hands where germs usually get attached.
Rub your hands together thoroughly for at least 20 seconds. This is the same amount of time it takes to sing “Happy Birthday” twice. Rub and scrub your wrists, palms, between your fingers, under your fingernails, and the backs of your hands. The scrubbing motion loosens germs off your hands.
Rinse your hands thoroughly with warm, running water. Use a paper towel to turn off the faucet so that you will not risk getting germs right after hand washing. Dry your hands thoroughly.
If hand washing is unavailable, then you can clean your hands with a hand-sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
