Social distancing, also known as physical distancing, is a practice that encourages people to take part in helping slow the spread of COVID-19. It means staying at home as much as possible, avoiding large crowds, and maintaining a distance of at least six feet from other people.
It is making personal choices to change certain ways we live our daily lives in order to protect ourselves and others, especially those at a higher risk of contracting COVID-19.
The purpose of recommending social distancing is to minimize physical interactions among people and ultimately slow the spread of COVID-19.
Social distancing is something that everybody can do. Here are some ways you can help:
- Stay at home as much as you can.
- Avoid non-essential social activities and travel. Do not go to places where there are a lot of people unless it is absolutely necessary. It is better to avoid taking public transportation as much as you can.
- Stay at least six feet away from other people.
- If possible, work or study from home. Avoid visiting family and friends in their homes, and refuse unnecessary visits to your own home.
- When greeting people, do not hug them or shake hands. For the time being, find other ways to communicate warm greetings and affection aside from physical contact.
