The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is asking community members to do their part to slow the spread of COVID-19 by practicing physical distancing, including avoiding any non-essential travel. If you use public transport to get groceries, go to work, or participate in other activities, it is recommended that you wear personal protective equipment, such as masks, face shields, and/or gloves, if available.
Try to limit the amount of time you are in close contact with other people, which means standing or sitting at a distance of at least six feet away from others not from the same household whenever possible. Keep as far away from other people as possible, especially if they are not wearing personal protective equipment and are coughing or sneezing without properly covering their nose and mouth. Try to schedule your essential errands when places are generally less crowded. If you can afford it, try to stock up on essential supplies so that you do not have to go out as often.
Also, try to avoid touching surfaces in public areas and disinfect trays and carts that you would use. Keep your hands clean. Disinfect your hands after touching surfaces in public transportation or shared spaces and do not eat or touch your face without first properly washing your hands (see also: guidance on handwashing).
