Health experts are learning day by day how immunity to COVID-19 works. While immunity after infection has been noted in some individuals who have been infected, some studies conducted in the United Kingdom and the United States have found a significant decline in the amount of antibodies in people who have recovered from COVID-19 over a few months after their recoveries. We do not fully understand how long immunity lasts for people who have recovered from COVID-19.
In short, although some research may suggest that re-infection can occur after recovering from COVID-19, further research is still needed to determine how common re-infections are and for what duration immunity lasts. Even after you have recovered from COVID-19, it is in the best interest of yourself and those around you to continue to wear a mask, wash your hands frequently, and maintain at least a 6 foot distance from yourself and those not in your immediate household.
