I am an independent contractor. What unemployment assistance do I qualify for?

If you have not claimed unemployment benefits through the regular Unemployment Insurance (UI) program, you may be eligible for the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), a provision of the federal CARES Act.

You may qualify for benefits through the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) if you are unemployed, partially unemployed, unable to work, or unavailable to work due to circumstances related to COVID-19.

You may look for eligibility for PUA if you are a business owner, self-employed worker, independent contractor, or gig worker, and are not receiving benefits through the Unemployment Insurance Elective Coverage program.
