What COVID-19 rental assistance are available to me?

As of June 20, 2022, the state of California is no longer accepting applications for COVID-19 rent and utility bill relief, according to COVID19.CA.gov. Applications for rent relief submitted by March 31, 2022, will be reviewed.

Eligible individuals that applied for rent relief may be protected from eviction if used for unpaid rent that was due between April 2020 and March 2022. However, this policy is only viable through June 30, 2022. Invididuals cannot be evicted by their landlords if the tenant has applied for rent relief and are awaiting an eligibility determination.

Individuals may be sued for unpaid rent. There are several local or statewide local organizations that provide free or low-cost legal assistance.

For those being evicted or in need of emergency housing, please call 211 to seek assistance.

More information on housing and rent can be found on COVID19.CA.gov.
