Through Operation Warp Speed, the federal government has been working on making one or more COVID-19 vaccines available as safely and efficiently as possible. The goal of Operation Warp speed is to produce and deliver 300 million doses of a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine.

It’s important to know that ensuring the safety of COVID-19 vaccine is a top priority of the US vaccine safety system. Additionally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is working with various partners to develop an adaptable COVID-19 vaccination program to ensure that vaccine(s) are available to all communities after these are authorized for emergency use by the FDA.

Due to a limited supply, certain groups will be prioritized to receive the vaccine first. The CDC has stated that healthcare workers and long-term care facility residents should first receive the vaccine while the supply is limited. According to the CDC, a COVID-19 vaccine will be provided at no-cost to patients. However, vaccine providers will be able to charge fees for giving or administering the vaccine to patients. For uninsured patients, the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Provider Relief Fund may also reimburse these fees.
